Two

how dare you make me smile like you do?

Honey–

I am trying

to keep

my cool,

but you

are making

it very hard

not to blush.

Around every

corner of

every day–

you make me grin.

I’ve said it

(to myself,

again,) I say it

every time:

I know it,

I’m in trouble.

But I just

think

that you

might be, too.

For I am

there,

you seem to be,

too.

As if we

were lovers

in another

life or life to be, too.

You hold

my face

when you

kiss me.

Big, sloppy,

kisses.

I say it

every time:

No one would

believe you

if you told

them how

we kiss

because it is

unexpected of

me—

the slobbery

wetness of

our kisses,

teeth

clashing as we

laugh.

No one would

believe you,

but here

is your testament

to keep,

forever;

you,

holding my

face..too

dangerously

close to

my heart

for being

so far

away anywhere

but here,

in this

moment,

me wrapped

in your arms.

I say it

every time:

You are

temporary

in this

space

I call

my body.

I allow them

past the walls

because they ask.

Only to see them

clawing their way

back up

when the door

is wide open

if they just

had the audacity to

go the

way they came.

I say it

every time:

I am not here

to be your keeper,

nor are you

mine;

I just thought

it would be nice,

to rest together,

as two—

company. If we could

hold each other

for a bit,

and forget

that the door

is just as open

for you to arrive

as it is for you to leave.

I say it

every time,

and I’ll say it

next time, too.
