Two by Two

Breathing heavy.
Muscles sore.
Soon no need to climb much more.
I need a drink.
I stop to rest.
A peaceful rock I spot to sit.
Taking my water, I drink a sip.
Look at that view, I go to say--
"Wait... What's that?" Takes its place.
A sudden shift in everything, a sound so loud. Irreversible change.
The peace has shattered, Cleaved in half.
Where once was just me--
Well now there's two..
I take a look upon myself.
"Well yes," I think, "I know her well!"
But on closer look there's something off...
Where are the birds?
I can't hear their song.
Its getting dark, something is wrong.
Now as her smile splits our face
It grows more clear, this grave mistake.
As I and scream and gasp for air
Peace descends, I'm home at last.
