Turn the Light Back On

Or to just lay in the dark staring at a screen

To stare at the traffic pass by

Or to fly off the pavement like a butterfly

To do as Shakespeare wrote and take thy poison

Or to perish in the lack of reason

To rear its ugly head like Sir Wallace

Or to continue bearing my soul in the chorus

To walk over the red-hot ploughshares of Normandy

Or to succumb to the deafening disharmony

To take all my pills a month too early

Or to continue as I am even if it’s just barely

To sleep away the day

Or to wait until I wither away

Or to just lay in the dark staring at a screen doing anything that requires the least effort to pass the time waiting for them to turn the light back on

But they smashed the lightbulb
