Drawn to a twinkle in
The center of a fairy circle
Velvety red caps splattered white
A fungal moat
Easily penetrated
The mycelial shield
Extending laterally for miles
Gaps and spaces
Invite my intrusion

Once completed
The arcane circuit
Powers transportive ritual
Screaming in harmony
Vibrations transmit me
Soul and body

Left dancing in the
Pallid moonlight
A white rabbit burrows
Scratching the damp earth
Searching karst land hollows
For a tunnel straight to a
Taloned cavern
I give slow-motion chase
He’s discovered
Meandering through
Gypsum beds of
Carved ruby roses
Displayed on
Stalagmite stems

Rusty condensation
Dripping from ancient formations
Painting the rabbit red
Leaving leporine outlines
On the limestone tread

Glancing behind
No passageway appears in sight
My name echoes
Syllables bounce and clash
Frightening the bunny
Claws scrabbling down
An invisible path
My only escape
Reversing my steps
I try breathing in reverse
My heart un-beats
But my head still stabs

Spinning out
The sun
Streaming in
Between the branches
I fall, crushing several mushrooms
The twitching of a rabbit’s nose
Silently observes nearby
Before diving beneath a stump
