Truth in Building

Memory Stones

By Katrina ThornleyPublished 6 years ago 1 min read

I.

There was a moment

Captured in still frame

That hangs like a tapestry

On the interior wall

Of my self-created room-

It paints the moments

That began the growth

And the events that lead

To roots upturned and

Branches destroyed.

I find beauty in its colors,

Doubt in its reality

And yet it thrives,

Existing because I breathe.

II.

We all have taken moments

And snipped and clipped

To create the tale

Of beginning to end

Of love and friendship,

Of innocence and ruin-

We savor these moments

Filling them with hate

And protecting them with love-

We understand with confusion

The stones that built us

Despite our sometimes desire

To crumble beneath the wait

Of the images we carry

Day to day-

Still frame loops

Of all the paths

We can't return to.

III.

Regression is an impasse,

Removal of one,

Removal of all,

Our sordid affairs

Lead to here and now,

Removal is rebuilding

With straw instead of brick.

Embrace and face the day

With your truth.
