If virtue slips from the lips of an enemy,
the heart must still embrace it with grace
for truth knows no borders,
and light cannot hide its own flame.
And if corruption stains even a father’s hand,
no veil can bury what is false;
truth remains truth, falsehood remains false
no bond, no name can alter its essence.
Affection, likeness, or kinship
is no certificate of goodness,
nor can shadows be painted as dawn.
The true mark of humanity is this:
to accept truth as truth even if spoken by a foe,
and to call falsehood false even if it wears the face of one’s own.
