True Love: A Rarity Amongst Men
Uncommon Challenge
If I were to pick out
The rarest occurrence
In all of humanity
It would be
Love,
Love known to be true
Tried and abused
Yet still pouring through
no matter if it’s misused
You see the act of loving
holding
steadfast
despite any wayward wind
like a flame
is a rarity
the strength to love
through suffering
to burn gracefully
is an act of courage
something that is lost
in this day and age
Perseverance
The will to keep loving someone
No matter how flawed they may be
No matter how scorched they’ve already become
No matter how they may burn you
You love that person
Openly and fully
You love that person
As you would expect to be loved
But, rare,
is such a love
Rare,
is such equally returned love
Rare,
Is a love that doesn’t give up
Rare,
to find someone willing to love you as you would love you
Rarer,
to find someone you love as much as you
And its perhaps the rarest,
for two people to love each other the same way one would love oneself
and then deciding to keep loving
despite themselves
the true flame…
Love, unconditional
Between souls
A true rarity in this day and age.
Love that conquers the greatest of all foes.
One’s own Ego.
