Trinkets

a tiny winter poem

By Ellie HoovsPublished 12 months ago 1 min read

There is a sage green box

forgotten

in the top of my closet

full of trinkets,

each one the talisman

of a memory.

love letters scrawled on

ripped out notebook paper

folded into hearts

ticket stubs to concerts

where we danced for hours

screaming every word

bottle caps and birthday cards

a gold tee and dried honey suckle

coins and polaroids

a tiny notebook

with my great grandmother’s handwriting

moments that have made up a life

that show when and where

it has been full of joy and love
