entering the palace of possibilities
becoming the prince of positivity
surviving motivation island
when I was young,
loving school,
my favorite subject was recess
reading superhero comic books, but strangely
enjoying doing math problems for fun.
At school, I became the king of the playground,
kissing pretty girls, running fast, trying to kill me,
spitting out my chocolate kisses. . . . .
hating learning, becoming very bored,
very distracted, very deeply depressed.
becoming a mind pirate
entering a fantasy island of Gold
eating chocolate chip pirate cookies.
grades were not good, father not happy.
calling me stupid, believing him.
months tranforming into years;
becoming a man, having worst jobs
sacking groceries, delivering newspapers,
mowing lawns.
suddenly, my young mother dies.
spending seven years in college, dropping classes,
hating classes and failing classes.
at her funeral, swearing on her grave
promising to graduate, mom smiling from heaven,
throwing me kisses, opening a fortune cookie,
reading my fortune, spreading good luck upon my life
