Transcendence

epitaph for my father gone twenty-seven years

The night sky is the blue

of your eyes that dreamed us

into being and even now I search its expanse

for some lingering sense of you.

But you have gone beyond

the reach of my dreaming

things left unsaid tremble forever

on my lips like wild birds seeking flight.

The heavens, ever sentient, will not give up its secrets

and holds you jealously.

You were the brilliant thread

our souls are embroidered with

and I have been gentled and made great

by the wisdom and unconditional love

bestowed upon me

If I have become even half of what you were

in my rite of passage

I have given you immortality.

I will watch, and wait,

until you pass this way again.
