wind
the wind in the trees buzzes
leaves whip in invisible currents
my steps slow, eyes close, contemplate
the rhythm of the forest
***
the brush moves to my right -
blacktail deer is bounding
inhale! awe and wonder
tomorrow, my steps will gently pad the trail
keen woodland aromas filling me up
***
wind
listen to its breathing
whistling or rattling, maybe roaring
***
peace is here
colors abound,
songbirds serenade
butterflies float by

***
forest
yellow and green in the warm season
white draped fir needles, heavy, hanging
or leafless trees with bony fingers
pointing, and arching in the cold season
and around, outside the forest,
sadly, the world rushes by unheeding
