Traces of Her

There are so many traces of her

scattered in every corner,

everywhere I look she is there.

She has lingered for oh so long,

I just couldn't expel her.

Like an apparition

she appears everywhere I look.

It is her I just can't escape.

I know she's no good for me,

yet I'm addicted to her.

I need her like a junkie needs a fix,

I need to feel her legs wrapped around my waist,

her lips pressed to mine,

her nails embedded into my skin.

It is these things I miss,

not because they were hers,

but simply because I am alone.

Just give me a moment

and once a moment has passed

I will have had a moment to think about where to go

from here.

I see

it is not where I was,

that's not where I belong.

I tried that and failed.

I need to go,

in the direction where I have never been.

I need to play a game,

sing a song

I've never imagined could be.

I find her still

in places I look

but she fades with every passing day

I clean her a little more from my life.
