Open your eyes and look around,
See how the times are changing.
Technology grows at breakneck pace,
While society feels deranging.
Social media connects us all,
Yet also serves to divide.
We curate highlight reels of life,
Hiding flaws we can't abide.
Behind screens we sling harsh words,
With little thought or care.
Anonymity breeds toxicity,
Hatred spreads through the air.
False truths pollute information streams,
As algorithms prioritize extremes.
Outrage and confusion fill the feeds,
As truth becomes what one believes.
Community and citizenship fade,
Individualism takes its place.
We cling to "me" and what we have,
Ignore the stranger's face.
The climate warms, seas rise higher,
Natural worlds swiftly perish.
Yet denial and delay persist,
As leaders refuse to cherish.
Inequality grows deeper scars,
The marginalized feel more pain.
Those with means retreat to enclaves,
Leaving the poor in the rain.
Our shared home calls for action,
To mend what has come undone.
The time is now to come together,
But we are too divided, too late.
We failed to lift our eyes in time,
The fractures cannot be mended.
Now all we have are echoes of what was,
As our doomed future's blended.
Progress marches on regardless,
Towards a horizon bleak.
The eternal wheel keeps turning,
But for us, there is no more hope left to seek.
