Tone Up

A Sonnet

The trouble may be that we are confused

About the meaning of coveted love

So seldom offered, so often refused

It seems to be a tone, seen from above

That is, seen from the balcony, on stage

It is an attitude, a way to be

Or think or speak or act, with grief or rage

Or grave seriousness, or winsome glee

But to act like someone who is in love

You must delight in figuring things out

From a favorite soup to a lost glove

With sincere joy; without fear or doubt

We know what this sounds like, this attitude

It moves one to feel humble gratitude

Like Dharrsheena, I was enamored with the final quatrain and couplet! Especially “You must delight in figuring things out From a favorite soup to a lost glove”

  • "But to act like someone who is in love You must delight in figuring things out From a favorite soup to a lost glove With sincere joy; without fear or doubt" I especially loved that stanza!
