Tomorrow
There is a boy, who waits for tomorrow,
for the sun to rise and usher their siblings to sleep,
for the bus to arrive and take him away,
to the place he finds his happiness,
his joy, his comfort,
to yesterday.
There is a girl, who longs for tomorrow,
for the moon to wane and the birds to sing,
for the sound of her roommates chatting to wake her,
to the place she can be free,
from her nightmares, from her pain,
away from yesterday.
Tomorrow,
when the sunlight shines through the cracks
of your broken dreams.
when your plants no longer get watered
by the tears rolling on your cheeks.
when hope clings to you
more tightly than you have been held
before.
Tomorrow.
There’s always a tomorrow.
But today.
Hurt me,
so I know that it’s real.
