To The Neighbor On My Left

Before You Moved Away

By Kathleen KoronuiPublished 5 years ago 1 min read

Hi neighbour to my left!

It’s been quiet on your side

You have a dog -a white malamute

With a toilet- brush, tail

His bark’s annoying by the way

Just thought I’d mention that :)

Your puppy sniffs at fence posts

Begging my dog to play

Malorie; wise beyond years,

A tan ball, playful eyes,

My beautiful rescue dog

That captures hearts through cages.

I know you’re from China

Though we haven’t shared a word

There’s a conifer and fence between us

But I’ve heard you say “nee hao”

On humid summer nights

As I sit on my porch, smoking.

When Covid hit the news,

Wuhan China, they said.

Your family was reviled

I left some yellow peaches

At your red front door,

‘Cause I wanted to let you know

That the color of my heart

A unique piece of me,

Is rainbow.
