To Tea or Not to Tea

Poetry inspired by a postcard!

By Chloe GilholyPublished 3 years ago Updated 3 years ago 1 min read

One of the writing groups I am a part of had this lovely event where we were assigned to send postcards to a partner and we write a poem based on the postcard prompt we received. I had a lovely one from Rowena.

Hi Chloe!

Here is your personal poetry prompt - I hope you enjoy it! :)

Find a packet of food/tea in your cupboard and look at the marketing text on the back (or the instructions if you prefer!) Write a poem using as many words from it as you possibly can.

Poetry love,

Rowena

To tea or not to tea?

That is the question!

The answer’s 100 degrees brewed

In three to five minutes

You can sleep tight knowing

All 25 bags of herbal tisane

Come from plant based sources.

25 perfect nighttime’s in a teabag tin

Are those pink clouds or rose tainted candy floss?

The glorious lemon balm fills my senses

The lavender aroma caresses my dreams

The delicate nighttime glamour

Lingers on rose petals imported from Germany.

Wow this is a fantastic mix of subtle humor and gorgeous imagery and diction. For a challenge from your friend, I think you knocked it out of the park. My favorite lines are: “You can sleep tight knowing All 25 bags of herbal tisane Come from plant based sources.” 😂 Also, “The delicate nighttime glamour Lingers on rose petals imported from Germany.”

  • That was great , thank you for sharing
