What must it be like when you go to work
To know that your life might be in danger
To know around each corner trouble could lurk
From someone you know or more likely a stranger
It takes special people to take those risks
People that answer alarms
They study and train to become so brisk
To step up and protect us from harm
The ultimate sacrifice has been given by many
Too many times in too many places
I grieve for them all, not leaving out any
My heart breaks seeing their beautiful faces
So my hat’s off with my deepest respect
For all those with a badge on their chest
With a motto to “Serve and Protect”
From among all of us, you are the best.
