You see, home was once a place
A little girl roamed and felt safe
For she was blinded by innocence and youth
That is, until she uncovered the truth
Do not be fooled, she was always loved
Always cared for, and that was enough
But never once did this little girl expect
What once was home to be so broken and wrecked
As the days grew old and money fell tight
The little girl became a woman, who felt something wasn’t right
Dad was never home, he was losing more money
And the MGM casino just thought it was funny
One summer evening, there was a knock at the door
As the woman opened, an eviction note fell to the floor
The woman’s mother pushed past her, screaming “I can’t take this anymore!”
With tears forming in her eyes, another drink she began to pour
The only times the mother and father talked were to fight
So the mother had enough, and left that night
Before she went, she kissed her daughter on the head
“Make something of yourself, learn from me and my dread.”
Her daughter now, barely keeping it together
Vowed to work hard, no matter the pressure
Because one day she will be so successful
That her mother’s life will never again be stressful
That little girl has her own place now, and is waitressing her way through school,
Her mother texts her from afar, “I’m so proud of you baby, you did everything you said you would do.”
It hurts when you’re not here, when I need you more than ever
I miss you mom, and for you I will be better
