To My One True Satellite
A Love Note To The Moon

To My One True Satellite –
I placed night-blooming jasmines atop my
coffee table last night in hopes that their
sweet scent would swiftly sway upward
and fill your craters with the same camaraderie
as you fill my night sky.
While the legion of stars are busy
granting the wishes of others, you
overtly stand guard. Like clockwork,
you navigate treacherous terrains
so that the cobblestones underneath me
faintly glisten as I walk home.
A lonesome vigilant sentinel,
you never miss a shift – and that is not lost on me.
This love note is your flowers
for your constant assurance
for your unyielding companionship
for your modesty despite your radiance
for your guarded grip
of my darkest secrets. Take
it with you whenever you go back
to your splendid and magical home.
Let it remind you of all your glory
as your memories fizzle in the heat.
I am pungent and grotesque
and yet you place a crown atop my head.
You deserve your own crown,
your own rings, and your own
orbiting disciples. Until then,
let my appreciation and affection for you
fill the air between my enamored heart
and your hovering body.
Amongst the many ever-fleeting
objects, you are the satellite,
and even when I cannot see you,
your forces keep me grounded.
