"To A Hungry, Hungry Herbivore"
Day 23 | 25 Days of Poetry Challenge
There's a crunch available
To those who spend their days
Tracing distant hills with their eager eyes.
To those wanting something to hold,
there is bread.
Truly, nothing like a fresh kiss,
from something sweet like meadow grass
Missouri knows.
Bring to mind
A hunger you have known before
And crunch it down
Give it a good crunch:
Glass stars in your mouth: CRUNCH.
At dawn, "the dust settles"
And your "dead-to-you" mother's soft embrace
Becomes a powdery touch, poof!
A very different 'poof' than yummy breads make.
But you were hoping for the same -
Might, maybe...meditation, surely,
Where the light hits there's a place for you.
Maybe a warm, post-shower robe you can wear
- At least
You could...
Drink instead...
the smooth rolling hills that blur
without any finger action.
Poor, poor,
poor you
You see,
The hills are so smooth without you.
This poem is part of a series of 25 daily word experiments I am committing to for the month of October. The motto: “Sometimes garbage, sometimes sweet, not fun everyday, but everyday anyway!” Intrigued to experience what can be created (and discovered) in the process of developing a consistent writing practice, I will be sharing a poem a day until my Vocal+ subscription ends at the end of the month. Let’s gooooo!
