Murder and birth

The beginning of life and the end,

You see it in the news,

But I've never lived it, like my friends.

I realize I have lived a privileged life,

Filled with joy, luck and both parents.

I have learned from my time here,

A lot can happen in a year.

Never had a gun pulled on me,

Never been robbed,

The kids laugh like it's normal,

For me though, it's not.

Body in the grass,

3rd graders walking past,

It makes these kids grow up so fast.

Kids having kids,

But can't afford new shoes,

How are they gonna raise a baby,

When they should be at school.

Ankle monitors in the hallway,

Fights about people,

This group hates that group

Because of something their brother did.

Police at the high school,

Pepper spraying kids,

All they want is love and attention

Not a lecture about what they should've did.

I'm scared for my kids,

I hope they make it out,

I don't wanna hear about an investigation

About them, on the radio station.

Try to encourage, try to teach

Try to do everything I can,

To show them love and care but,

There's only so much you can do,

With 90 minutes, 5 times a week.
