February snows
soaking the hems of all our denim,
wide-legged as our wide-eyes,
passing paper hearts
in bustling blue-lined hallways.
***
We stole warmth from radiators,
sharing snacks and swapping stories,
while the cool ones strummed guitars
and sang about burning out.
***
It was forgetting umbrellas,
water fights in the rain,
stealing dreams from stars
we were never handed.
***
It was showing up,
never showing off,
paper airplanes,
one pair of ear-phones
one more song
about kitchen parties
in a home you swore you'd build.
***
A hundred
chocolate kissed reasons
should have been enough.
They set the bar that I dropped
and never picked back up.
***
We were timeless
until the bells rang out.
