Time

Musings

Whenever we begin to talk, all time stops dead in its place,

As I listen to the words cascading from your mouth and focus on your face.

What is time? Who is she that we must subject ourselves to her?

As she stealthily stalks our days as a lion stalks its prey with a growling purr.

Whenever we begin to talk, all time stops dead in its place,

As I listen to the words cascading from your mouth and focus on your face.

Why do we fear that we will run out of her or that we will never have enough?

Why do we not savour the moments and disregard her and label her as tough?

Whenever we begin to talk, all time stops dead in its place,

As I listen to the words cascading from your mouth and focus on your face.

Why do we continue to shackle ourselves with her heavy chains in slavery?

Why do we not rise up to this dictator and refuse her with all of our bravery?

Whenever we begin to talk, all time stops dead in its place,

As I listen to the words cascading from your mouth and focus on your face.

Why do we allow her to freeze us in her icy grip, unable to move freely?

Why do we not allow the heat from our exchanges or chemistry melt the ice to see clearly?

Whenever we begin to talk, all time stoops dead in its place,

As I listen to the words cascading from your mouth and focus on your face.

No more will I think of time or her effect when I am in your presence,

No longer will she torment me or command me as you are truly the cure to all my ailments.

Whenever we begin to talk, all time stops dead in its place,

As I listen to the words cascading from your mouth and focus on your face.

No more will time control me with her whims, nor will I answer her every call and beckon,

No more will she leave me rushing to end a beautiful moment and my conscience harden.

Whenever we begin to talk, all time stops dead in its place,

As I listen to the words cascading from your mouth and focus on your face.
