Memories of old

Today I time traveled,

You know those moments that feel like magic

when space and time align just right

you are transported back to a memory so vivid so real, it’s as if you never left

It was an old road once traveled long ago

20 miles of two lanes splitting an open desert

It was an unusually chilly spring day

the clouds illuminated the ocean blue sky

The intense desert sun peaking through

Just enough to shimmer across harsh terrain

radio dial turned as high as can be

windows rolled all the way down

embracing the cool air beat against my face

Immediately I was back to spring 2006

Graduation is just around the corner

An evening spent with close friends

Doing nothing of importance, just being together

I had some great friends, I was blessed

We went through it all, we laughed and cried

It’s only in retrospect that I see how lucky I was

Today I’m driving the road alone

But for a few moments

I was wrapped tightly in that old warm embrace

It’s days like this I’m lucky to be a time traveler!
