Our eyes wander to a clock
Why do we constantly check the time
As if we are wasting it
It could all just be a concept
An eye on the hour
Waiting for the next
The next day
The next moment
The after instead of the during
Maybe I’ll do it today
Or tomorrow
Or someday
Do it right now
You can decide
The sun will still come back to us
The moon will still blink
And the stars will always smile again and again
Take your time
After all, it’s yours
I want to stay in that one moment longer

Day 4 of Quitting
If this is how sobriety feels, maybe it’s better to go through life a little buzzed… this, along with other hits like, I want to kill myself, I wish I was dead, and I’m going to throw myself off a bridge have been the only thoughts on rotation these past few days. I promise myself that if, in a month, I still feel like this (‘this’ meaning despondent, full of rage, and simultaneously numb) I can go back to smoking. Until mid-February though? Nicotine is off the table.
