Through a Glass Darkly*

A poem

I can see a dimly lit light

curled up on my balcony

glass walls

reflecting

all the shadows

of the previous existence

muted with one gesture

of contempt

and exposing the lie

apparent as black

ink on white

paper

for the certainty of recognition

of each forged figure

I’ve seen it all

siblings fighting with each other

father against his own child

and the mother meddled in the middle

of this whirlwind

while I became

a machine to transfer things

inside a plastic box

with an unspeakable approach

stifled by the lack of commitment

on the other side of the line

dripping with orange juice

from every side

of rotten teeth

To hell with it!

*The title of my poem is taken from a 1961 Swedish drama film written and directed by Ingmar Bergman, one of my most respected filmmakers. I saw almost all of his magnum opus films a few years ago at one of the film festivals in Poland and was delighted from the very first. No other director can show the entire spectrum of the human condition with all its psychological nuances. Bergman has also directed comedies, less appreciated by the public and critics, but nevertheless in his filmography. I would like to visit the island of Fårö, where he lived, created, and died. He is one of THOSE European directors who have made the greatest impact on the cinema as a whole, especially on the artistic part of this medium.
