Thoughts betray

a heart's desire

I swore to never think of you again,

nor ever think of promises long gone -

a world away, and we were younger then,

when love raced fast and summer days were long.

For years, I saw your face in everything…

a constant sign of our eternal love.

But distance only sorrow the heart brings -

an endless madness, fated from above.

I wanted change so I would not mad grow,

and heart would not by depth of anguish die,

so, mem'ries of you I had to let go

and hope that peace would find me, by and by.

But all that found me were more thoughts of you;

for one cannot deny: a love that’s true.

    You can’t wrong away from memories and heartbreak. Great poem.
