My mem'ries drift to the shadowed morning.

When the sun shone through the curtain rushes,

And their stark shadows stretched in deep longing.

They settled into the dark recesses

At the point of the Stygian abyss.

From whence I fancied glaring eyes aloft

As some ghost or wand'ring spectre amiss.

I gave a shriek like a Poe or Lovecraft.

When my cat with fur as midnight rushed right

From those shadows I so desperately feared.

It dashed through swirling dust into the light

I laughed at the sight for my fear was cured.

Though I still look back and wonder in horror:

Wasn't the cat in the other corner?
