This Gold Will Stay

a poem by Natalie Gebhardt

By Natalie GebhardtPublished 5 years ago 1 min read

color me in shades of pink

and wash me down the bathroom sink

sex me up bleach my hair

make me bleed my underwear

//

color me in shades of black

and I'll tell you everything I lack

watch me rot from within

as I recant all of my sins

//

color me in shades of green

and I’ll tell you about my dreams

be your magic hippie girl

get lost in my gypsy world

//

color me in shades of red

sketch some horns over my head

give me heels a mile high

fan the fire behind my eyes

//

color me in shades of blue

and see what I can do for you

enough strength to build a house

I could be the paddy ox

//

color me a vibrant hue

so you can try on something new

only to change your mind

turn around, leave me behind

//

but no matter what color you chose

be it pale or be it bold

I know the color of my soul

and that is sun kissed, burnished,

Gold.

//

yeah, I sparkle in the night

in the darkness- I am light

and nothing can take that away

not tomorrow, not today

//

so color me any shade

because this gold, this gold will stay.
