Thinking Back Part I

Part of Love Letters Poetry series

By Monai the Poet Published 5 years ago 1 min read

I thought I loved you once

Moments of blissful slumber

Accompanied endless fantasy tales

Of a life where I was yours

And you were mine

The morning light grew envious

Because it opened my eyes but still

You were the first image in my heart

And every moment between

Sunrise and sunset

My purpose rose and set

On you

I burned for you

And no form of coolant would suffice

Unless it was the ice

Of your heart

I thought I’d weather the storm

Of your Insecurities and fears

How they rained on my joy

And struck down my peace

With the thundering roar

Of your ignorance and

Your immaturity

And your pride

And I thought

I could stand strong

In the midst of the storm

Just so you can one day

Possibly see a clear sky

But instead one day, I realized

You didn’t want it

You didn’t want to heal

Or grow

You formed your fog of misery

And settled for its darkness

I thought you could be my sun and moon

But you were a cumulus cloud

You were stuck floating away

Aimlessly straying to and fro

You wrapped yourself in your

lifeless cocoon and slept

And you thought

That somehow I’d stay asleep with you

Allow you to not be alone

While the lies of your mind

Consumed you

And I thought

That because I loved you

That I’d let you

It turned out

We both thought wrong….
