Things I Want You To Know

A Poem For My Children

By Tiffany JacksonPublished 4 years ago 1 min read

I want you to know that people aren’t perfect..

That “good” people do bad things and even “bad” people do good things.. sometimes.

I want you to see that people don’t fit into the nice little labels we have constructed for them…

That the human soul in all it’s wonder, the human experience can not be summed up in mere words.

I want you to see the power of love and compassion…

And sometimes I fell short because the pain and betrayal left wounds that wouldn’t seem to heal. Don’t weep. It was all a part of my journey.

I want to teach you not to judge so harshly because of the things that make us different…

Those were in fact the beautiful things and one day, perhaps you will see that when you look back.

I want you to understand a Saint was once a sinner and that a sinner might one day be a Saint…

If only we could believe.

I want you to know that there is still so much beauty here, and that there are also things that are downright cruel and evil. These things can weigh on the heart.

But I want you to shine in those dark places because there will be souls who need you.

I want you to know that I have failed and succeeded, laughed and cried, loved and hated. I’ve been misunderstood and sometimes despised. I’ve also been loved.

And those who see me.. truly see me… see the wonder in it all. Thank you to those rare souls who “see,” who know, that the lotus grows in the darkest places, and that a dandelion is not really a weed at all, but a flower who was simply mislabeled.

Most of all I want you to know that I love you and I always will.♡
