Soldiers on the other side bared similar feelings in their heart.
For neither side did wish to fight for a war they did not start.
So you were laid to rest, way before your time.
Much to the distress, of loved ones left behind.
So we thank you for your courage and for running toward the danger.
For when the deeds were done and when the war was over.
A subtle change ran through the age,
it paved the way for things to change.
For women have the vote today,
freedom won and here to stay.
My gosh, you were so young,
it says so on your grave.
But an important thing it does not state,
is how you were so brave.
We only wish you were here to see,
the changes that have come to be.
For you will never know, the potential you did unlock.
Remaining in our hearts,
you're gone but not forgot.
So when the call comes in to say, we need to stay inside.
We shall not fear, complain and we certainly won't hide.
We'll hold our heads up high and say,
that things are not so bad today.
So dutifully inside we'll stay,
we'll look toward a brighter day.
For it is a small price to pay,
To ensure that lesser lives will lay.
