She’d say, call and let me know that you are ok

Be sure and let me know - when you make it safely home

There’s plenty left, why don’t you take some with you

She always wondered and worried about everybody else

*

She’d call at the end of every day, just to check in

Nothing changed, she just wanted to hear my voice

Well, let me know if you need anything from me

I hate now that somedays- she knew I was annoyed

*

Because, right now, I’d give anything to hear her say my name

Checking in, talking to me, until I made it safely home

She always told me I’d never understand that feeling

Until I had some children of my own

*

So now I find myself just like her, making phone calls

Not much to say, I just wanna hear their voice

I know now - how right she was about so much

Cause its 3 am and I’m here, in my mother’s place

Beautiful and heartfelt. You never appreciate your mother more than after becoming one yourself.
