She was told,

Ah, She isn't much of a beauty

When she topped her clas

The entrance to her house resembles

That of a hut and

How does a family manage in there?

They wondered

Her dance steps were not sharp for the front row,

But was replaced by fair skinned classmates

Rich people have it easy,

Connections make all the difference she was taught

Attractive people make more money,

And win better jobs,

They told her with a smile,

Why so you even try,

With your identity as woman in this world,

You have already began your life with a struggle,

So stop trying they told her,

Stop fighting a losing battle...

They laughter at her dress,

Blamed it for inviting men's attention

When she was groped on the way to work

They advised her to cover up her face

But they did not know..

All their words went through her years

And would change into nerves of steel

Her focus was laser-sharp

She kept doing her work, she keep dreaming her dream

Listing her goals and went on learning

She was her mom, her best friend

She cried at nights and woke up stronger

She kept her promises and raised her vibe

She keep grinding and found her tribe

And the world came to know her for what she was

And “just look at the fighter” they admired her

She answered their praises with a smile

Helped them out as she could

And kept living her heart’s truth
