These Times

Justice

By Imani K. WatkinsPublished 5 years ago 1 min read

We’re overwhelmed

And distressed

We’re angry

And oppressed

We’re misunderstood

And deceived

We’re provoked

And bereaved

Our hands are in the air

We’re unarmed

While only the privileged

Remain unharmed

We’re anxious

And tired

As unnecessary shots

Are continuously fired

Enduring intense choke holds

And unethical actions

Experiencing lifeless bodies

And illogical retractions

With knees in our necks

No way to breathe

Please don’t reward

Another paid administrative leave

Four hundred years

Of injustice and pain

Shall we never forget

The story of Abel and Cain

Nevertheless

We attempt to prevail

We’re seeking out heaven

While earth is in hell
