Then The Drums Of War Fell Silent
By Willow Walker
Alone I stood, a great host opposed
Grey demons gaining ground
My battle worn-armor dented and damaged
Neither strength not courage left to be found
Broken and tired, fighting ‘neath skies of tar and pitch
Waist deep in mud and frozen wind feeling
The enemies drums approached and doom was sure
As I lost sight of all that is good and pure
Then the drums of war fell silent
Giving way to a magical tune
A silver flute rising above the chaos
Hope in my heart then bloomed
My eyes, I forced them open
To see an angel in the sky
Her wings exuding beauty
And light following behind
She spoke and silenced the wind
She turned and banished the foe
She lifted me from mud and death
Armour no longer needed, she cast it aside
“I am but a coward” to her I cried
She turned to me once more
“Your strength, your courage never left you”
I wondered how could this be
“‘Twas hope you lost, nothing more.”
With but a glance and a word
She’d returned that to me

Probably the worst poet since the Vogons, but I like to think my prose is a bit better
