Then and Now

Time changes everything. Sometimes not for the better

Then and Now

Then

In the days of less, when pockets were bare,

People gave freely, love was the fare.

A loaf of bread, a patch to mend,

No need for riches—just a helping friend.

Neighbors knew when hearts were low,

A kind word offered, a fire to glow.

No race to outshine, no ladder to climb,

Simple joys marked the passage of time.

Now

Today, we chase what glimmers and gleams,

Trapped in the web of impossible dreams.

A bigger house, a shinier car,

We mortgage the soul to reach for the star.

Debt is a shadow that follows behind,

As we seek to outdo, we forget to be kind.

No longer a village, each stands alone,

A world of connections—yet colder the tone.

Reflection

Oh, to return to that gentler phase,

When wealth was measured in kind hearts ablaze.

Perhaps we can learn, as seasons unfold,

That life’s true treasure isn’t bought or sold.

So let us remember, the old ways still call,

To share what we have, no matter how small.

For kindness and love will always outshine,

The fleeting allure of “what’s yours and what’s mine.
