The Writer's Block

It Happens to All of Us

Blank, blank, blank,

His mind was a blank.

No matter how hard he thought,

No matter how he worked,

No matter how much he tried,

Nothing was coming to him.

He sat in front of the keyboard,

The keys waiting to be used,

His fingers itching to type,

But he couldn’t get past the block.

The block,

Oh, the dreaded block,

The hated bane of all writers,

Stopping all authors in their tracks,

Making them not able to move forward,

And having him tear his hair out in frustration.

He wants to finish his story,

He is not too far off,

But how to get past this part?

How does he get his character to overcome this trial?

It couldn’t be too cringey or cliché,

It had to make sense in the world of the story,

And it had to stay true to his character.

But what?

What would get past his block,

And satisfy his needs and demands?

Then he happened to look outside,

The sun was shining,

It was summer so the weather had to be warm,

Right?

Wait,

When was the last time he went outside?

Realizing his problem,

The Author left the keyboard,

Finding that his block,

Could possibly be broken down,

From a much-needed break.
