The worst campfire song, ever.

Literally, the worst.

By Jordan ZunigaPublished 4 years ago 3 min read

Now let me tell you mangy dogs,

As we sit on a bunch of logs,

An old camp fire song my dad used to sing,

It's a great old story I often dread,

It'll down right knock ya dead,

About a man who went camping and tasted deaths sting,

A man named Gus rode out of town,

Looking right up and surely not down,

Packed his car that it couldn't even fit a bug,

It was spring in a mid April weekend,

He was taking a vacation to rest and mend,

All cozy and fuzzy and warm and snug,

So he set up camp in the middle of nowhere,

Without a concern, thought, or care,

About anything that could be out there,

Burning a fire with dogs to cook,

Didn't even consider to care or look,

If there was a mountain lion or bear,

To him it was just all the same,

So much so that a spark of a flame,

Went off the side and started to burn,

The wood started burning,

A thought so concerning,

The wages he would finally earn,

For they say that the wages of sin is to die,

No matter the weeping and wailing to cry,

And you're sentenced to lay in eternal fire,

Yet the flame started roasting,

The forest started burning,

And his situation soon became dire,

He frantically ran like a turkey on thanksgiving day,

Without a head and without a way,

Wonder of what the solution could be?

So a bear came to splatter,

A bucket full of water,

And said, "Dude, haven't you seen me on t.v?"

So he sighed and laughed at the sight he had seen,

Wonder if there had been any other way it could have been,

As the night began to settle into place,

He laid his head down,

In his tight little gown,

With the sound of a rattle near his face,

The fear of what's behind him,

Made his appearance feel grim,

Of the serpent that was behind his back,

Yet he slowly without a sudden gesture,

Changed the position of his posture,

A woodpecker on the tree he would smack,

Gus's mind was racing,

Trying to maintain steady pacing,

Like a thrill ride that would never let him go to bed,

"Hey, what are you doing here?"

He spotted what looked like a biker coming near,

"Oh, it's just my buddy, Fred."

Gus sighed as he secretly made a wish,

Who brought him a rather warm dish,

"I thought you might like me to bring,"

So he opened the platter,

And discovered the matter,

A chili bowl fit for a king,

He was handed a spoon for a bite,

A swallow in the night,

He screamed, oh so painfully,

He begged for relief,

"Dude, what is that chief?"

"Oh, it's chili with hot sauce insanity!"

...

The camp looked at him and asked, "All that for nothing?"

The singer replied, "Well, I told you it was a campfire song I dreaded!"
