The World Within

Step outside.

The sky brightened slightly before they came.

I didn’t notice; I was playing the latest online game.

Like the little green men from Mars,

only these said they were from far beyond the stars.

‘Show us your world,’ I thought they said.

Although now, I'm sure it was all in my head.

I pressed the keys to change the screen,

for I had things that must be seen.

‘What is this?’ I heard them say.

‘Is this something we learn to play?’

‘No, not at all!’ I loudly exclaimed.

‘Just wait a moment, I will explain.’

I opened up my Face Book feed.

To show our world, it was all that I need.

They stared amazed at what they saw,

as if they'd seen nothing like it before.

With a click on one tab it flashed full screen,

and the latest world politics began to stream.

They gestured in admiration.

‘What an amazing way for world collaboration!’

‘It is I agree, and look here, you can have your say.

Anything you want, because no one listens anyway.’

Then a noise outside came in,

And it put them in to quite a spin.

‘Is that singing?’ they did ask.

Suddenly I set myself a task.

I opened up Google search and I found,

a picture of the bird that made that sound.

‘This tool you have,’ they said in awe,

‘is something we have not seen before.

What an amazing people you are, the human race.

You can live your lives sitting in the one place.'

With information shared, it was time to leave.

But then the world they saw outside they could not believe.

A bird dancing on a limb.

A sweet sound that it did sing.

I watched them turn to me,

They shook their heads and said, ‘could I not see.’

'See what?' I thought, as I read the news.

It was a story about a space ship that had the highest views.
