The World Loved her First

A poem about the Earth

By Abigail LynnPublished 6 years ago 1 min read

With beauty and grace

The world put a smile on her face .

The rain kissed her cheeks ,

And the wind whispered secrets

She’d giggle to the trees

And let the clouds give her dreams .

The ocean filled her soul

The sun said good morning,

And the moon, goodnight.

When she couldn’t sleep,

It was the stars she’d seek.

The trees gave her breath

And the plants gave her life ;

The world loved her first .

Even as the blue became black

The yellow buzzing was ceasing

The green grew brown

All the creatures staining red, numbers rapidly decreasing.

And what was meant to be white,

Just melting away

The earth cried and shone a rainbow

To give her one more good day.

It was the world that gave her everything

Taking nothing in return .

It took a long while

But, as the time passed,

She fell in love with the earth

As the earth was fading fast .

She fell in love too deeply

Carrying a weight on her shoulders,

That cracked even the strongest of boulders.

The love kept growing

As she began to rot ,

Everything she had she gave back to the Earth .

Until finally, all she had was her body buried deep in the dirt.

She knew the world was beautiful

But now she feels it too.

The world is dying

Just not as quickly as you
