The Wind Can’t Keep a Secret

So don't even tell the softest breeze

The Wind Can’t Keep a Secret

I told the wind my secrets,

he blabbed it to the world,

shouted through the chimneys,

left my quiet heart unfurled.

He rattled all the fences,

spoke where I had stayed still,

turned my hush to thunder cracks

on every lonely hill.

I trusted him with whispers,

but he bargained them for noise,

spilling all my careful thoughts

like discarded childhood toys.

So now I guard my meaning,

lock it deep and tight,

speak only to the silence,

and close my lips at night.

But sometimes when I’m restless,

I feel him passing near,

tempting me to tell again—

I shake him off in fear.

He’s a force who can’t be trusted,

a thief with empty hands,

and every truth I gave him

got lost across the lands.
