The Weight That Walks Beside Me

There is no weight stronger than a depressive anxious mind.

The Weight That Walks Beside Me

Morning arrives, yet light feels thin and distant.

The air moves slowly through a restless room.

Somewhere a bird calls out to the day,

But inside my chest the sound fades away.

Fear wakes early, before the kettle sings.

It sits beside me like an unwanted guest.

Its quiet whisper fills the corners of thought,

As if tomorrow has already been lost.

Anxiety walks the halls of the mind.

It opens doors that should remain closed.

Every memory becomes a shadow,

Every hope begins to tremble.

Depression is not always loud.

Sometimes it is a silent tide.

It steals the colour from ordinary hours,

Leaving the heart unsure how to rise.

I watch the world from behind tired eyes.

People laugh, people move, people plan.

Their lives run forward like clear rivers,

While mine stands still in heavy sand.

The clock ticks, patient and cruel.

Each second carries something away.

Moments that once felt bright with promise,

Now fall like leaves that cannot stay.

There are nights when sleep refuses kindness.

Thoughts circle like cold winter winds.

What if tomorrow grows darker still,

What if the road ahead simply ends?

Yet somewhere beneath the broken quiet,

A small stubborn breath remains.

It whispers softly through the darkness,

Life is wounded, but life remains.

So I gather the fragments of courage.

A single step, then another slow step.

Even the longest night eventually loosens,

And morning remembers how to return.
