The Weight Of Love

And Tattooed Hearts

You bared your teeth at me, convincing me, it was a smile

I should have seen you comin' from at least, a country mile

But that tattooed skin and cowboy boots, drove my naive heart half wild

You're beautiful boy, but deep inside, you are the devil's child

***

I met you on a Sunday morning, in the back row of the church

A drive by sinner livin' wild, dwellin' on this side of the dirt

I was just lookin' for a love, not even tryin' to get hurt

But boys like you sure have a way with redefining words

***

So now we're tangled up in something that we should have left alone

I should have gone the other way, but now your pictures' in my phone

You're like a drug under my skin, being absorbed into my bones

Till all that's left for me to breathe, is air laced with your pheromones

***

I blame it on the love songs, makin' me believe you'd change

I blame it on your kisses, makin' me believe the things you say

I blame it on my heart telling me that you were gonna stay

But you won't, cause I can hear the lies, whenever you say my name

***

So now we're tangled up in something that we should have left alone

I should have gone the other way, but now your pictures' in my phone

You're like a drug under my skin, being absorbed into my bones

Till all that's left for me to breathe is air laced with your pheromones

***

Now, I'm sittin' here remembering how it felt to be with you

Wishing that wherever you are, you just might be missin me too

But I can't hang on to what if's, I know there's just one thing to do

I need to bury this emotion, replacing this heart with a tattoo

-But you won't, cause I can hear the lies, whenever you say my name- It’s true how the subtle changes in a persons tone tells more than the words themselves. Great work, Kelli.
