The Want That Never Leaves

Your shadow colors all my nights and days.

I cannot quiet down the want that stays. (A1)

It lingers in the corners of my mind. (b)

Your shadow colors all my nights and days. (A2)

I try to walk in new and brighter ways, (a)

but echoes follow close, too well-designed. (b)

I cannot quiet down the want that stays. (A1)

I tell myself this ache will pass, it frays (a)

yet every thread leads back to you entwined. (b)

Your shadow colors all my nights and days. (A2)

I dream of silence, free of your old blaze, (a)

but flames return in patterns I can’t unwind. (b)

I cannot quiet down the want that stays. (A1)

No distance softens what the heart betrays; (a)

desire is a lock I cannot blind. (b)

Your shadow colors all my nights and days. (A2)

So let the truth stand naked in its haze (a)

the past is stitched too deep to leave behind. (b)

I cannot quiet down the want that stays, (A1)

your shadow colors all my nights and days. (A2)
