Her parents beamed with pride, and Clara hugged her tightly. "I always knew you’d make it," Clara said. "You’ve got the voice of an angel." For weeks, Eliza dedicated herself to perfecting her performance. Nothing could come between her and the grind.
She chose a challenging song that highlighted her vocal range and spent hours each day practicing, determined to give it her all. Everything seemed to be going perfectly until the day of the final rehearsal arrived.
As Eliza entered the rehearsal hall, her heart sank. Standing there, with her unmistakable air of confidence, was her arch-rival, Amaree Winters.

Day 4 of Quitting
If this is how sobriety feels, maybe it’s better to go through life a little buzzed… this, along with other hits like, I want to kill myself, I wish I was dead, and I’m going to throw myself off a bridge have been the only thoughts on rotation these past few days. I promise myself that if, in a month, I still feel like this (‘this’ meaning despondent, full of rage, and simultaneously numb) I can go back to smoking. Until mid-February though? Nicotine is off the table.
