you were a conformist
an optimistic pessimist
the ventriloquist of a polythene heart.
i was an artist
an unwavering existentialist
i was alone in a fake, plastic world.
you were indecisive
yet deafeningly authoritative
you lost your faith in me.
and i was a dreamer
a compelled believer
in the promise, the allure, the idea of greatness
i showed you the stars
and the meaning of life
and you shut me away
like a pig, in a cage
and i believed you were crazy
i believed that you loved me
and you shattered the supports (sharp retort)
floor collapsing, falling.
if i could be who you wanted
i would throw it all away.
because what am i to this world
but a polystyrene puppet
(a head on a stick)
the ventriloquist of a polythene heart?
