True Treasures

*

She placed , with gentle tenderness

the priceless, fragile figurines

Onto the tree of togetherness

but not to touch, only to see

*

Her mama told her, be careful

but clumsy, plagued her tiny hands

And through her eyes, now tearful

she did her best to understand

*

The smile that grew on nana's face

as they gathered shards and pieces

At her joy, now seemingly out of place

at these tiny, fractured masterpieces

*

As baby cried in sorrow

at mama's furrowed and angry brow

Nana lovingly said, tomorrow

must wait, patiently, for the here and now

*

Together they spent hours

making the memories that mending makes

The mood once foul and sour

over a moments, lapsed mistake

*

They celebrated once again

as the mosaic memories, hung in glory

This the lesson needed to glean

and the moral of the story

*

True treasure hides inside of us

in the immense beauty of the moment

Look deeper than bruises and cuts

and embrace the magic of what love is
