The Unseen Love of a Father Behind Bars

A Letter to My Wife and Newborn Child

By Josephine NabwirePublished about a year ago 1 min read
A father behind bars writing a letter to his beautiful wife and new born child

In shadows cold, where iron sings,

And freedom flies on broken wings,

I write to you, my love, my light,

My unseen stars in endless nights.

My darling wife, my little child,

Your faces keep my soul beguiled.

Though walls may cage my weary frame,

My love for you burns just the same.

How cruel the hours that pass so slowly,

How deep the ache you’ll never know.

But through these bars, my words will climb,

Defying rust, defying time.

I dream of hands so soft, so small,

Of hearing footsteps in the hall.

Of laughter ringing, sweet and clear,

Instead of silence drawing near.

My love, my child, if fate allows,

I’ll kiss your cheeks, I’ll share my vows.

But if these chains should keep me still,

Know love can breach the strongest will.

For walls can’t hold what’s pure and true,

My heart resides with both of you.

So read these words when skies are gray,

And know I’m with you, night and day.

When you feel lost, when shadows fall,

Remember love transcends it all.

Though bars may stand and time may part,

You live within your father’s heart.

This unseen love, though bound, will soar—

A chainless bird forevermore.
